The first Hearst wire news, International News Service, made its debut in 1906, followed by the National Press Association three years later. The International News Service suffered through a humiliating period in journalism history when various discreditable practices by the INS were revealed in 1918. The service eventually recovered its reputation, and came to be considered one of the three great American wire news services.
