EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Screaming headlines, sensational stories and captivating illustrations changed the fate of the failing San Francisco Examiner under the proprietorship of William Randolph Hearst.

"Circulation! Circulation! Circulation!" became the battle cry in the newsroom of the Examiner, and all of the other publications that would become part of the Hearst publishing empire.

The number of Hearst newspapers grew to more than thirty, and circulation peaked with one in four Americans starting their Sunday morning with a Hearst newspaper.
